Nursing college functional at CIHSR

DIMAPUR | OCTOBER 21 : The much awaited Nursing College at Christian Institute of Health Science and Research (CIHSR) Dimapur started functioning on Friday with the first batch of Post Basic B.Sc (PBBSc) students attending classes.
Dedicatory programme for the College of Nursing was held in the afternoon with Chairman Board of Directors of the College, Dr. Santosh Mathew as the guest of honour. Mathew pointed out that education was fast becoming commercialized including medical institutions and in the course of which medical professionals were losing the compassion and care for the patients. However, he expressed the hope that the College would produce nurses with holistic care for the patients. He was optimistic that the College would grow to become a major institution in the future.
Giving a brief history of the College of Nursing, CIHSR director, Dr. Abraham said that it did not take long to make the College a reality after the decision taken to start the institution. Towards this, he thanked the CIHSR, its various wings, the Government of Nagaland and other well wishers for their “extremely helpful” acts towards establishing the College. He attributed the successful establishment of the institution to the determined and collective effort of all. He specifically thanked the state government for the help and support rendered from the very beginning. Abraham said the College would first offer 2-year courses in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM) and PBBSc. While the class for PBBSc has already started, classes for GNM will start in January next year. He encouraged the students and the faculty to live up to the expectations of the higher authorities who trusted them that they could run the good course and bring honour. “We can’t rest on our laurels but should continue to work hard and deliver  the goods,” Abraham said.
Principal CMC Vellore, Dr. Alfred Daniel in his short speech offered the goodwill support of CMC Vellore to the College of Nursing.
Faculty of the College, Zuchobeni read out a Bible passage and pronounced the invocation while Dr. Varghese Philip said the dedicatory prayer. MS CIHSR, Dr. Sedevi proposed the vote of thanks and Dr. Viu said the benediction during the programme which was chaired by vice principal of the College, Emi Humtsoe.
