A press release from NVCO President, KezhokhotoSavi and KDTODU President, RuveseSokha informed that there have been complaints that several shops were charging more while selling essential commodities in the name of transportation charges.
However, the KDTODU as a transport services community informed that transportation charges have not been raised in any manner. The organisations also expressed concern at instances of masks and sanitisers being sold at exorbitant rates.
While appealing the whole community to co-operate with the District Administration in each district in controlling the rates in the market, the KDTODU and NVCO asked the business community not to charge more on any essential commodities.
The two organisations also expressed concern with regard to protection of healthcare workers in their fight against COVID-19.
The NVCO & KDTODU further rued that reportedly “certain equipments which must now be available to protect the healthcare sector from infection is still lacking in government hospitals out of which the most vulnerable hospitals are Dimapur Civil Hospital, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima(NHAK), Mon Civil Hospital and so on.”
It therefore appealed to the State Government, especially the Chief Minister and the Health Minister to immediately supply required equipments to the healthcare sector before it is too late.
It also appealed to all citizens, especially legislators, bureaucrats, technocrats, contractors, suppliers, traders, administrators and the wealthy community to come forward to contributes their resources in whatever manner in the fight against COVID-19.
The current crisis, the organisations pointed out, will severely affect especially the poor, less privileged and daily workers’ community.
