Tuensang, October 26 (MExN): Nyenshen FC today successfully defended the Loyem Memorial Trophy beating the strong contender Khulioh King FC by a solitary goal. The finals of the 27th edition of the tournament was held at Loyem Memorial Ground, Tuensang on October 26.

On its 25th year, Khulioh King entered the competition as one of the favourite to lift the trophy and performed strongly in their previous matches, but could repeat the feat in the finals.

Befitting for any finals, both teams engaged were locked in a heated battle in the first half; however none could make any breakthrough.

When the match resumed in the second half, crucial goal from Nyenshen’s Ratobe in the 55th minute sent their fans into frenzy.

The defending champions, thereafter, adopted a more defensive approach.

Taking the opportunity, Kings unleashed their full force into the game in search of an equalizer.

They came close to scoring in the dying minute but unfortunately, the crossbar proved to be an ample custodian for their opponents.

Heavy rains coupled with windy and cold weather could not deter the fans as all roads led to Loyem Memorial Ground and it was packed to capacity with football lovers.

The fans were not disappointed as the final was a lively spectacle, despite the low score on the board.

Fans from both sides also enlivened the match as they passionately spur their teams while participating in periodic word-plays.

In the end, Nyenshen FC could successfully hold to the solitary lead and  emerged as the better team and defended the title.

The winners walked away with trophy, certificates, medals and a cash prize of Rs. 2,10,000.

The runners up also received certificates, medals and a cash prize of Rs. 1,10,000.

Each semi-finalist also received Rs. 25,000.
