Clean Election Movement is gaining prominence and momentum by the day. Many candidates both past and present too are happy for the substantial reduction of election expenditure in constituencies where people have resolved to stand by the ethos of clean election. So far so good, and surely clean election is doable if only people are sincere and honest.
However, the question is not just about "Clean Election." It is about "Clean Candidates" too. For there can ultimately be no clean election if there are no clean candidates.
But how do we define clean candidates? How do we identify one? These are mind boggling questions and opinions may vary and perhaps there's no easy answer or consensus.
Therefore, the best way to ascertain a clean and capable candidate is to set a certain criteria.
How about considering the following qualities in choosing the right candidate?
1. HONEST: A person who is noted for strong character and solid integrity. A truthful, ethical and principled person who seeks public interest above his or her personal benefits.
2. FORWARD LOOKING: A person who can envision the future and give a sense of direction to the future. Someone who has the ability to imagine or discover a desirable destination so that followers do not stumble and perish in darkness.
3. INSPIRING: A person who is ever enthusiastic, positive, optimistic and passionate in bringing about change and transformation in society.
4. COMPETENT: A person who has relevant experience and sound judgment. Most of all, the ability to get things done and deliver results.
Unfortunately, most intending candidates we see are mostly the same old players in the garb of different party colors every election. So there is not much choice and the future remains bleak. However, we must grab the opportunity and choose the lesser evil so that there will be a glamour of hope to move forward and upward.
