Chümoukedima, August 30 (MExN): Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), Chümoukedima-Seithekema, organised its Science Exhibition 2026 on August 29 at the Bundrock-Chapel Auditorium under the theme “Science Beyond Limits”.
The event brought together students, faculty members, invited guests and participants from various schools, providing young learners a platform to engage with scientific concepts through creativity, experimentation and innovation.
The programme began with a prayer led by Rev Dr Vichükho Ngukha, Chaplain, PCC, followed by a welcome address by Dr Thokchom Devala Devi, Dean of Sciences, PCC. She highlighted the importance of providing students opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom through observation, experimentation and practical application.
In his keynote address, PCC Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Pierü spoke on the theme “Science Beyond Limits” and the expanding potential of science and technology. He said advancing scientific frontiers required the courage to ask questions, willingness to learn from failure and a strong sense of responsibility towards society.
Pierü told students that “science always starts with a question” and encouraged them to observe their surroundings, critically assess their observations and seek ways to improve existing systems and solutions.
Referring to global challenges including climate change, healthcare and energy, he said innovative solutions could emerge from the ideas and imagination of young people. He encouraged participants to envision themselves as future scientists, engineers and problem-solvers and urged them to “stay curious and never stop asking questions”.
Special guest and speaker Obed Bohovi Swu, Divisional Forest Officer (SFS), Zunheboto, Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Government of Nagaland, shared examples of young innovators who developed solutions by examining problems in their immediate surroundings.
Drawing on his experience in the Forest Department, Swu encouraged students to move beyond conventional approaches and cultivate the habit of asking fundamental questions such as “Why?” and “How?”. He also highlighted environmental concerns and the need for scientific solutions that are practical, sustainable and beneficial to society.
Swu urged students to make full use of their curiosity and imagination, stressing that science extends beyond laboratories and textbooks. He expressed hope that the exhibition would inspire students to pursue research, innovation and problem-solving.
The first session concluded with a vote of thanks by Avono Savino, Senior Faculty, Department of Botany, PCC, who acknowledged the special guest, college authorities, judges, participating schools, students, faculty members, volunteers and organising teams. The session ended with a closing prayer led by Angel Sonari, former Vice-Principal, PCC.
The second session featured the Science Model Making Competition (MSSM), in which participating students presented working models and innovative ideas based on scientific concepts and practical applications.
The models were evaluated by a three-member panel comprising Thingri Sareo, Post-Graduate Teacher (Zoology), Patkai Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima-Seithekema; Mongshai TM, Post-Graduate Teacher (Chemistry), Patkai Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima-Seithekema; and AG Samuel, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous).
PM SHRI Government Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, won the first prize, while the Department of Mathematics, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous), secured the second prize and North Town Higher Secondary School, Chümoukedima, received the third prize.
The exhibition concluded with the prize distribution ceremony, highlighting the importance of fostering scientific curiosity, creativity and innovation among students and encouraging young minds to question, experiment and explore solutions to real-world challenges.
