Jalukie, March 21 (MExN): Friends of Society secured a place in the final of the Peren District Football League (PDFL) 3.0 after defeating Nchangram Lun FC in a penalty shootout in the second qualifier played on March 21 at Astro Turf Ground, Jalukie Town.
With the win, Friends of Society have set up a final showdown with defending champions Lekie Mtei FC. The title clash is scheduled to be played at 1 pm on March 23.
In the closely contested encounter on Saturday, both Friends of Society and Nchangram Lun FC battled intensely for a spot in the final, with both sides displaying attacking intent from the outset.
However, neither team could break the deadlock during regulation time. The match proceeded to extra time, but with no decisive goal forthcoming, the contest was eventually settled through a tie-breaker.
In the shootout, Friends of Society held their nerve to register a 4–3 victory and book their berth in the title clash.
Namsibo of Friends of Society was adjudged Man of the Match.
Meanwhile, the closing ceremony on March 23 will be graced by Advisor to the Chief Minister, Chairman IDAN and Vice President of the Athletics Federation of India, Abu Metha, as the special guest, along with Kuchi R Zeliang, proprietor of Case Construction and founder of Barak FC, as the special invitee.
The organisers informed in a press release that the final will be streamed live on the PDFA YouTube channel (@PDFA), while live match updates and the championship leaderboard will be available on SportsMatrix.in.
