Peace Channel conducts seminar on Child Rights

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): Peace Channel in collaboration with India Alliance for Child Rights organized one day workshop under a theme ‘Children Speak Out Their Rights’ at Diphupar Council Hall, Dimapur. The programme was attended by around eighty people including government representatives’ administration, NGOs and civil societies. Around 65 children from diverse background and localities participated in the aforesaid programme. The programme began with an introduction by Peace Channel, District Coordinator.
The programme began with invocation prayer by Malangti of Locality Peace Club, Dimapur. Rev. Fr. C.P. Anto, Director, Peace Channel, in his Keynote address, presented the context of Child Rights in India and particularly, Nagaland. He highlighted that around 41% of India’s consists of children. He gave an insight to the participants about the objectives of the workshop and expressed his gratitude IACR Delhi for setting a platform for the children to know their rights and the drafting of new policy for Children’s Rights 2010. He told the children to respect and uphold the rights of the children from marginalized background and backward tribes.
Later, Anoka H Assumi, EAC, motivated the children to march forward in right direction and to know their rights which are entitled to them. Kitovi, president DSU, in his addressed expressed gratitude towards peace channel for creating awareness on National Child Rights Policy and urged the participants to gather maximum information and educate oneself on Child Rights. The inaugural programmes came to an end with vote of thanks from Atoholi Shohe.   
In the post lunch session resource person Kishor Dass briefed the students on group division based on five essential rights and their correlation with the help of pentagon Diagram. The group was asked to use scores to grade their opinion based on the following three questions.  1. What are the rights of all the children?  2. What is the importance of these Rights? 3. What is the ground reality?
After the discussion the group were asked to present their opinion through chart paper presentation and also expressed their questions to the government as to what do they want from the government? The programme came to an end with the group discussion and presentations.
