Peren, October 11 (MExN): The three-day 12th Peren District Inter-Departmental Tournament 2026 concluded at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Jalukie on October 9, with Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru attending the closing ceremony as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Meru appreciated the participation of government employees from various departments and thanked the organising committee, headed by ADC Peren, for successfully conducting the tournament. Highlighting the spirit of camaraderie, teamwork, healthy competition, sportsmanship and discipline displayed during the event, he urged the participants to uphold these values in their professional lives. Expressing concern over the functioning of government offices at the district headquarters, Meru said he had received complaints from the public regarding the functioning of several offices. He stressed that employees posted at the district headquarters must discharge their duties responsibly and work towards improving public service delivery.
He also called for better coordination among departments and cautioned against working in silos. Reminding the gathering that all government employees represented the Government of Nagaland, he urged them to work collectively, motivate one another and contribute to the development of the district.
In the table tennis women’s singles event, Florence of the Agriculture Department emerged as the winner, while Kengbame of the DEF finished as runner-up. In the men’s singles, Samlamyising Nampeung of the Education Department claimed the title, while Jangkholen Hangsing, also from the Education Department, secured the runner-up position.
In women’s arm wrestling, Shezholu Vero of the DEF emerged as the winner, while Kenzuyile of the DEF finished as runner-up. In the men’s category, Pausuiteing of SERI claimed the title, while Keyisamrang of the Administration Department secured the runner-up position.
In carrom women’s doubles, Achilo Ezung and Lhingneilhai Hangsing of the CMO emerged as champions, while Suku and Tingbam of the DEF finished as runners-up. In men’s doubles, Hailamching Ndang and Rosou Zholia of the 9th IR won the title, while Shikavi Z Rotokha and Toto A Awomi of the Prison Department were the runners-up.
In women’s futsal, the Social Welfare Department emerged as champions, while the Forest Department finished as runners-up. In men’s 7-a-side futsal, the Education team, led by Lemrai, claimed the title, while the DEF team, led by Dibam, secured the runner-up position.
In badminton women’s singles, Kisamzaile of the Social Welfare Department emerged as the winner, while Kigwetlungle, also from the department, finished as runner-up. In women’s doubles, Kisamzaile and Asuni of the Social Welfare Department claimed the title, while Peheilusile and Ipeupeile, also from the department, were the runners-up.
In men’s singles, Kekungdibo of the Social Welfare Department emerged as champion, while Kidungyi of the DEF finished as runner-up. In men’s doubles, Kidungyi and Tali of the DEF won the title, while Samrang and Hutu of the Administration Department secured the runner-up position. In mixed doubles, Kekungdibo and Kaka of the Social Welfare Department emerged as champions, while Chungkhokai and Lhingneithem of the Education Department finished as runners-up.
In the badminton 45-plus men’s doubles category, Jacob and Akaho of the 9th IR claimed the title, while L Imlinungba LKR and B. Lanu of the Prison Department finished as runners-up. In the 45-plus men’s singles category, Jacob of the 9th IR emerged as the winner, while Gumhei of the Administration Department secured the runner-up position.
In the open chess category, Akaho Achumi of the 9th IR emerged as champion, while Mengise Haikam of the Education Department finished as runner-up. The prizes were distributed by Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru, ADC Peren and SP Peren.
