Pfutsero, October 17 (MExN): Pfutsero Government College held its 44th Annual Sports Meet from October 14 to 16 at the Pfutsero Sports Complex, with an emphasis on discipline, mental preparation and the role of sports in the holistic development of students.

Nyuvitho Nyuthe, Joint Director of Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, attended the occasion as the chief guest. Speaking on the theme “Unleash the Champion Within”, Nyuthe said becoming a champion requires a long journey marked by dedication and discipline.

Citing boxing as an example, he explained that competing in a particular weight category requires athletes to pay attention not only to exercise and practice but also to their diet. He also stressed the importance of mental preparation and conditioning to compete at the highest level.

Nyuthe called for a change in the mindset of both parents and children to give greater importance to sports and encouraged the college to continue pursuing sporting excellence.

Dr Anungla Pongener, principal of Pfutsero Government College, was the guest of honour at the concluding ceremony. Addressing the students, she encouraged them to stay away from drugs and channel their energy into physical activities.

The sports meet featured team competitions for male and female participants in football, volleyball and basketball. Athletic events included running races across different categories, high jump, arm wrestling and long jump, among others. The annual sports week is an important co-curricular activity of the college, aimed at promoting physical fitness and shaping students towards holistic development.
