CHIZAMI, DECEMBER 17 (MExN): The 52nd Chizami Sports Association (CSA) Meet 2024 was held from December 12 to 17 at the Chizami Local Ground. The event witnessed the participation of approximately 400 sportspersons representing six khels, competing across 19 sporting disciplines. Pfutshepa Khel clinched the title of overall group champions, showcasing their dominance across various events. In men’s football, Pfutshe Khel emerged victorious after an intense final, defeating Ladelekhro with a scoreline of 4-2.

Delivering the valedictory address, Colo Mero, Vice President, Nagaland Football Association, outlined a clear vision for elevating village sports to professional levels under the theme “One Team, One Dream.” He emphasized the need for CSA to focus on developing specific sports disciplines, including football; combat sports, cricket, and freestyle wrestling, where athletes have better prospects of reaching professional standards. He urged families and schools to support young, talented athletes, stressing that such encouragement is crucial for nurturing their aspirations.

Mero also highlighted the growing opportunities in professional sports in Nagaland, citing the achievements of Khwetelhi Thopi (Coach) and Eneibe Thopi (Player). Both have signed professional contracts with Nagaland United Sports Club for the upcoming Nagaland Super League, a milestone for Chizami sports.

He called for village and khel sports associations to channel resources into sports kits and training instead of excessive feasting, while acknowledging the vital role of the Village Council, Youth Society, and the community in driving the success and growth of sports in Chizami and beyond.
