Phek teachers trained to eradicate illiteracy under ULLAS

One-day ULLAS (Understanding of Lifetime Learning for All in Society) training programme for Volunteer Teachers (Department of School Education) was conducted at Community Hall, Bible Hill, Phek Town on April 8

Vechisayi, District Education Officer, Phek, delivered keynote address and said that the purpose and vision of ULLAS program under Ministry of Education, Government of India targets to make illiterate person to Literate and make India a hundred percent Literate Nation. He also informed that government school teachers were given additional service as Volunteers Teachers due to non-availability of other agencies.

DEO also informed that as per latest door to door survey conducted in Phek district by the respective Volunteer Teachers, a little more than 4000 are illiterate persons/citizens in which the newly upgraded Meluri district also inclusive. The duties and responsibilities of Volunteer Teacher are to teach people who have never been to formal education that DEO stated.

There were three (TOT) Trainers of Teachers as resource person at the programme. Thomas, TOT, EBRC Meluri spoke on the topic, Foundational Literacy and said that ULLAS is the New India Literacy Programme. He highlighted the Key Takeaways about ULLAS Schemes, which includes, Vision-Jan Jan Saakshar(Literacy for all), Volunteerism/Kartavya Bodh, Targets 15 years & above illiterates, Samajik Chendra Ketnas, Implementation in Hybrid Mode, Assessment twice a year through FLNAT, and on passing the FLNAT-New Literates. Thomas also had shared strategies of reading, writing, types of writing (Formal & Informal).

Topic on Foundational Numeracy, and Learning Outcome and pedagogical processes were delivered by TOT, Kevikho EBRC Phek and TOT Kutsholo Tsuhah EBRC Pfutsero respectively.

Ruyosuyi Khesoh, Deputy Director from Directorate of School Education also delivered short speech, where Kunusayi TOT Chozuba chaired the programme. More than 145 School teachers as Volunteers Teachers attended the training programme.
