Kohima, July 2 (MExN): Multiple power outages are being reported in parts of Kohima district following equipment failure at two key substations, the Department of Power said on Wednesday.

According to the Executive Engineer of the Transmission Division, Kohima, the disruptions were caused by equipment failure at the 132/33/11 kV RESS Kohima and a fault in the 132/33 kV power transformer at the Chiephobozou Sub-Station, which was affected by inclement weather conditions.

The outages have affected power supply to parts of Kohima Village, Kohima Town and the Southern Angami area, covering Pfuchama to Khuzama via Jakhama, through the Kohima Ring Main Line.

Power supply has also been disrupted in parts of the Northern Angami area, from Meriema to Botsa via Nerhema, as well as the Pughoboto Range through the Kohima–Chiethu Line.

The department said the affected areas are currently being supplied from the 132/33 kV NU Meriema Sub-Station through a single 33 kV feeder under a temporary arrangement.

Under this arrangement, any fault on either of the two outgoing lines—the Kohima Ring Main Line or the Kohima–Chiethu Line—affects power supply to both, as they are fed from a common source, resulting in multiple outages, it said.

The department said it is making all-out efforts to restore the affected equipment and normalise power supply at the earliest.

It appealed to the public to bear with the temporary inconvenience and extend their cooperation until the system is restored and alternate arrangements are put in place.
