Public Information campaign in M'laya

Shillong, December 7 (NNN): The first day of the Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman programmes organized by the central media units like PIB, DFP, DAVP, All India Radio, DDK and Song & Drama Division in collaboration with the District Administration, West Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya was inaugurated today by Dr. A. Pariong, Parliamentary Secretary, Government of Meghalaya.
 In his speech as chief guest, Dr. Pariong said that the Public Information Campaign is a platform for which the people are made aware of the government schemes.  The people need to know about the mode of implementation of the schemes for their welfare such as MGNREGA, IAY, NRHM, SSA, TSC, MMP, ICDS, RTI, JSY and the Bharat Nirman programmes.
L.G. Nongsiej, MDC, Nongstoin gave an opening remarks and explained about the implementation of the central schemes like IAY, SSA, PMGSY.  S. Kharlyngdoh, Deputy Commissioner, West Khasi Hills District presided over the inaugural functionProgramme Coordinator, NERCORMP and P. Toi, General Manager, DCIC, Nongstoin were also present on the occasion.
As part of the programme, a DAVP Exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. A. Pariong, besides a cultural programme, exhibitions and interactive sessions were also held.
 In the technical session, W. Nongsiej, Project Director, DRDA, West Khasi Hills district, speaking on MGNREGA said that there are Village Employment Councils in the District under which the programme executive committee functions.  There is also the Area Employment Council. Village Vigilance & Monitoring Committee for social audit.  The construction work taken up is check dams, roads, footpaths, etc.  The wages given are Rs. 117 per day for unskilled workers and Rs. 140 per day for skilled workers.  P.K. Seal, District Mission Coordinator, SSA, West Khasi Hills said that there are a total of 2374 Elementary Schools in the District including LP & UP.  Under SSA, there are 918 numbers out of which 470 are LPS and 448 are UPS.  Besides, about 203 schools have been upgraded during 2010-11.
The schemes implemented under SSA are school grants, teacher grants, teaching learning equipments, free text books, community training, etc.  M. War, Functional Manager, DCIC, Nongstoin spoke on PMEGP.
