NGO wants corrupt officials booked in CGI sheet scam
Shillong, December 5 (NNN): The Steering Committee Against Murder Of Democracy (SCAMOD), an NGO based in Meghalaya today demanded that the over Rs19 crore Corrugated Galvanized Iron (CGI) sheet scam should be closed and all the corrupt officials swindling the public money should be booked in accordance with the law of the land. The SCAMOD members who had made an in-depth study of the Rs19 crore relating to purchase of CGI sheets between 2003 and 2006 had found out that the public beneficiary had been misappropriated. On Monday, the SCAMOD members met the Meghalaya Chief Minister, Mukul Sangma and demanded that the case of misappropriation of public money should not be closed at all cost and the State Government should re-look at it in order to bring to its logical conclusion. Earlier, the members of SCAMOD who are also the members of the Meghalaya Right To Information Movement held a public meeting at Don Bosco Youth Centre and exposed the blunt financial irregularity relating the purchase of CGI sheets.
Mizoram media tour concludes
Kohima, December 5 (DIPR): Members of Mizoram Journalists Association, Lunglei conducted a Media Tour in Kohima on December 2 and 3. The team visited the State Museum, Nagaland, Assembly Building, Civil Secretariat and Kohima Village. The concluded tour was led by, Information & Public Relations Officer, Government of Mizoram, Malsawmsanga. The visiting team had interacted with the Director, IPR Imokokba Ao and senior officers in his office chamber. The officials of Nagaland IPR Department briefed them about the functions and duties of the different sections viz. News Section, Technical, Photo and Video Section, publication like monthly magazines 'The Warrior' and the daily hand-out 'Naga-News'. The visiting journalists visited the Hornbill Festival at Kisama, went around the well-furnished and decorated Cultural Tribal Houses (Morungs) and enjoyed the locally brewed wine 'Zutho-Thuthse' and tasted other food items of the Nagas.

GUWAHATI, December 5 (IANS): A full grown Royal Bengal tigress was shot dead on Monday by police commandos at the famous Kaziranga National Park in Assam after the big cat went on a rampage injuring, a security personnel and a video journalist, an official said. According to a senior park official, the tigress was killed near the national highway adjacent to the 430 sq km Kaziranga National Park in eastern Assam when she went berserk after straying into a human settlement area. "The tigress strayed out of the park area by crossing the highway and killed a pig in a village. Early this morning, she charged at villagers and police commandos arrived at the scene," the official said, requesting anonymity. The panic stricken tigress, hiding inside a bush, pounced on one of the commandos of the Assam police Quick Rapid Team injuring him, besides attacking a video journalist who arrived there to capture the rampage. "The rifle of the injured commando fell on the ground and then a few other commandoes fired at the tigress killing her on the spot," the official said.
