NSCN/GPRN (K) informs

Kohima, December 11(MExN):
The NSCN/GPRN (K) has informed and at the same time regretted that some habitual offenders of extortion/demand/forceful treatment made on to the business community/individual in the state particularly Dimapur and Kohima using the name of the group. In a release issued by the finance secretary of NSCN/GPRN (K) K. Akato Yepthomi, today cautioned that, in the interest of the public it would initiate stern action against to anybody including officers from own outfit. Finance secretary in the note has appealed all the well-wisher to immediately communicate on any condition such as donation, threats or information about anti-social elements can be communicate through this phone number - 9402993566.  Without proper knowledge or verification from the concern authority it would be meaningless and bound no responsibility of NSCN K in any manner, it stated. The release stated that the NSCN/GPRN (K) had strong feeling on any kind of anti-social activities that have to be controlled in our society.

Army, police arrest 8 ULFA, MULTA militants in Assam

Guwahati, December 11 (AIR):
In Assam, Army and Police arrested eight militants belonging to United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) and Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) in separate operations in Kamrup and Dhubri districts Saturday night.  Three ULFA militants were arrested at Baihata Chariali by Rangiya Police last night. Three guns and 14 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from the militants.  In another operation at Golokganj in Dhubri district, security forces arrested three ULFA cadres along with a 12 bore shot gun, a grenade and some amount of cash in US dollars.  Two MULTA militants were also arrested at Dahalagutipara in Dhubri district Saturday night. One pistol and some incriminating documents have been recovered from the arrested militants.  All the militants are now being interrogated at Baihata Chariali and Golokganj police stations.

Stringent measures by Govt of Mizoram for peaceful festive season

Aizawl, December 11 (NNN):
The government of Mizoram is taking up stringent measures for a peaceful Christmas and New Year season. Mizoram faces unruly incidents mostly during this time of the year as wild parties are often organised by the youngsters. In order to check this trend, Mizoram home minister, R. Lalzirliana and the law enforcing officers are taking up security measures in and around the state capital Aizawl. The home minister in a meeting has asked officials and NGOs to work in close collaboration with the law enforcing agency so as to create a peaceful atmosphere. The home minister also ordered to enforce the ban on crackers, other fire works and toy pistol with pelletes. The meeting was attended among others by DGP, Lalrokhuma Pachuau, senior police officers, bureaucrats, representatives of  Excise and Taxation department, leaders of Young Mizo Association (YMA) and clubs. Meanwhile, from Sunday security is being beefed up in Mizoram including the border areas in view of the Christmas and New Year celebrations. According to police sources, elaborate patrol parties of security forces have been arranged to cover all the vulnerable border villages. They are also to collect relevant information about the movement of anti-social elements looming large in the border areas.

Pankaj Bora Cong candidate for Assam RS seat

Guwahati, December 11 (PTI):
Pankaj Bora, press advisor to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has been nominated for the Rajya Sabha seat from the state, Assam PCC said on Sunday.  The seat fell vacant following the death of Congress nominee Silvius Condpan.  PCC sources said Bora's name was unanimously accepted by the party.  Bora, scheduled to file his papers on Monday, is almost certain to enter the upper house as the opposition parties have decided not to field any candidate. Election, if needed, will be held on December 22.

Assam govt assures punishment against those who killed tigress

Guwahati, December 11 (PTI)
: Assam Forest Minister Rockybul Hussain today said that the culprits behind the killing of a royal Bengal tigress inside the Kaziranga National Park will be brought to book. "We have ordered a probe and hopefully the culprits will be brought to book," Hussain said after visiting the park, a world heritage site, along with top forest officials. "Within a fortnight the probe report will be prepared and the culprits will be punished," he said. The tigress which strayed out of its habitat killed a pig and injured a security man before the police commandos shot it dead for "self defence" last week. Wildlife experts and several NGOs have condemned the killing of the endangered species and demanded exemplary punishment for the culprits.
