Tsg observes World Food Day

Dimapur, October 20 (MExN):
The district agriculture office Tuensang organised a day long programme to commemorate World Food Day with the theme ‘Food prices crises to stability’ on October 15 with representatives from allied departments, ATMA and KVK.
The programme was chaired by Dr Vikshe Sumi, Dy PD ATMA and Butang Khiam, DAO in his welcome speech spoke on the significance of the day. Wondangbeni Kikon, Dy PD ATMA gave a PPT on ‘food security’ where she highlighted the world scenario of food production trend and availability, food process instability and hunger prevalence. Martina Mozhui, SMS, KVK also gave a PPT on ‘Toward self sufficiency with horticulture crops’ where she highlighted the strategies that need to be adopted to bridge supply and demand gap through horticulture.
Short speeches were delivered by A Sipong, Chairman APMC, Kiamang, president CKS and Tokiho SMS KVK. The programme ended with interactive session and vote of thanks was delivered by Menunchitba Ao.

CIH organises training for Govt of Meghalaya

Dimapur, October 20 (MExN): Central Institute of Horticulture, DAC, Ministry of Agriculture, GOI, Medziphema, Nagaland organised a three days trainer’s training on ‘high density planting & canopy management of important fruit crops’ at the Directorate of Agriculture, Shillong from October 13 to 15. The training was organised for the state government officials of horticulture department, Government of Meghalaya. The objective of the training was to upgrade the skills and knowledge so as to increase fruit production with enhanced quality.
The training programme was graced by Dr. CO Rangad, Director, Department of Horticulture, Meghalaya. Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest he thanked CIH for organizing such type of training programme in their state and also the resource persons. He stated that the training is being conducted at the very right time and also the topics were relevant particularly in context of Meghalaya where development of horticulture is very fast and that the state’s economy solely depends on agriculture of which horticulture plays a major role. He also urged upon the participants to take full advantage of the training programme.
The resource persons for the training programme were Dr. Jayant Kumar, Sr. Scientist, RHRS, Bajura, Himachal Pradesh, & Dr. BMC Reddy, Ex-Director, CISH & National Project Co-ordinator UNEP/GEF TFT Project IIHR, Bangalore. Topics of the training include “Importance, Principles and Recent advances in High density planting and canopy management of fruit crops, HDP and canopy management in citrus, guava, plum, peach, pear, kiwi, strawberry and pineapple.
As a part of the training programme, the participants were taken for field visit to Bendrowel Lyngdoh’s Farm located at Mawryngkneng, East Khasi Hills and to the Government Fruit Garden at Shillong respectively where they were shown the practical demonstration on the canopy management of fruits like citrus, peach and plum.
Altogether 47 participants attended the training programme and certificates were distributed along with reading materials were distributed to all participants. The Department of horticulture, Government of Meghalaya and the participants were highly grateful to CIH and expressed hope that the information gathered and knowledge gained during the training will go a long way in helping the farmers of the state. 

Government High School Phokhungri upgradation inaugural function held

Dimapur, October 20 (MExN): The inaugural function of GHS Phokhungri was held on October 18 with N. Khevito Sema, Director of School Education as chief guest. The school was upgraded as middle school in 1971 and later upgraded to Government High School Phokhungri October 18 October 18, 2011.
Phokhungri Students’ Union President Mepingthü in a press release stated that V. Zhehito Aye, DIS Meluri said the greeting message while N. Khevito Sema exhorted the people to take up initiative to encourage and inculcate the right education to the younger generation. While saying that “Education is the foundation of all development” he stressed on the responsibilities of parents to educate their children and the students’ to get right education under Right to Educate (RTE) where free education is available to all.
Short speeches were delivered by Krutu Thurr, president PAPO, P. Paratsü, VCC Phokhungri and the programme was attended by dignitaries including Assistant Director, School Education, Nagaland, DEO Phek, staff from under DIS Meluri, EPRC Meluri, President 20 A/C Meluri, PAPO leaders and VCCs.
PSU also acknowledged Yitachu, Parliamentary Secretary of Law and Justice and Tourism, Director, School Education, DPB, DEO Phek, DIS Meluri, for considering the genuine needs of the people and upgrading the school from GMS to GHS. “Though Phokhungri is the last administrative village of Nagaland, the Government and the Department shown great concern for the people and upgraded the GMS to GHS Phokhungri.”
