IMPHAL| JUNE 9
Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh warned on Tuesday that any person in quarantine centres not maintaining discipline or flouting the protocols will be jailed.
"Mischievous and undisciplined inmates of quarantine centers would now be jailed," Biren Singh said. Expressing serious concern that some returnees do not bother to maintain safety guidelines laid down by the government at this time of crisis, the chief minister observed that it would never be possible to keep vigil on anybody round the clock. As such, the State Government has now kept aside a separate block in the Central Jail, Sajiwa in the outskirts of Imphal which can accommodate 90 inmates to jail the ‘mischievous’ inmates.
N Biren Singh said this while inspecting an under-construction COVID-19 Care Centre in Imphal west district.
The chief minister along with Health and Family Welfare Minister L. Jayantakumar and Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip inspected the works going on at UNACCO School, Meitram in Imphal West district for opening of a COVID Care Center. The chief minister and the ministers were briefed by the Chairman of the Governing Body of the school, N. Irabanta regarding different blocks and campus of the school.
The Chief Minister said that the COVID-19 Care Center at UNACCO School would start functioning from June 10. The Center was earlier planned to have only 100 beds. However, it has now the scope of increasing the capacity to 300, he added.
Chief Secretary Dr. J. Suresh Babu and other high ranking officials of the State Government also accompanied the Chief Minister during the inspection.
