DIMAPUR, NOV 3 (MExN): Returning from his tour of Tuensang and Kiphire Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio today paid a visit to the Mini Cement Plant at Wazeho, under Phek district.
The Chief Minister inspected the ongoing works being carried out for up-gradation of the plant from 50 metric tones per day to 150 metric tones per day. Rio interacted with the officers of the department and was briefed on the progress of the upgradation works. He urged the officers concerned to speed up the developmental works and ensure that the factory starts production at the earliest. According to the Chief Minister’s Press Secretary, Rio also visited the limestone reserves and mineral deposits in the Wazeho region.
The Chief Minister also visited Phokhungri, the last administrative post on the international border under Meluri sub-division where he took stock of the progress in the development of road connectivity to the International Trade Centre at Avankhu. On his way to Phokhungri, Rio visited Shilloi Lake and inspected the developmental works being undertaken to promote tourism. At Phonkhuri the Chief Minister addressed a public function organised by the Phonkhunri Area Public Organisation.
Addressing the function Rio reiterated the commitment of the DAN government to bring in all round development throughout the state. He said that the establishment of the Department of Underdeveloped Areas has given new thrust to development activities in the interior and backward regions.
The Chief Minister also paid a visit to the Horangki Power Project. He inspected the facilities at the project site and took an on-the-spot assessment of the status of the project. The officers of the department have been asked to submit a status report on the project to the Government at the earliest.
Earlier at Kiphire the Chief Minister was reportedly informed about the district being affected with a number of Malaria cases. Learning of this, Rio has now called for an emergency meeting of the Medical Department and a specialized medical team is being dispatched to the district to oversee and control the malaria cases.
While returning this afternoon the Chief Minister also visited the local vegetable markets at Meluri and Pfutsuro where he met local farmers and vegetable vendors. The Chief Minister while purchasing vegetables from the local markets was seen encouraging the farmers to work towards self sufficiency while telling them to take advantage of the various Government schemes and programmes that were being aimed at assisting farmers and agriculturists.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by PHE Minister P. Longon, Agriculture Minister Kuzhuluzo, Parliamentary Secretary for Power Doshehe Y. Sema, Parliamentary Secretary Kipili Sangtam, Parliamentary Secretary Yitachu, MLAs Nyiemli Phom, Heno and Torochu and a host of senior Government officers including IGP GK Rengma and Director, Land Resources, N. Putsure.
