Guwahati, January 18 (MExN): The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of NFR has successfully rescued 17 minors with arrest of one trafficker during ongoing checking and drives conducted from January 9-16 from different trains and railway stations under its jurisdiction.
As per an NFR official statement, the human trafficker was arrested on January 9 when a team of the RPF-Kishanganj along with members of Bal Bachao Andolan, Katihar conducted a check at Kishanganj Railway station.
The team also rescued six minors during the drive.
The rescued minors along with the trafficker were later handed over to OC/GRP/Kishanganj for safe custody and further legal action, added the statement issued by the CPRO, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).
Most recently on January 16, the RPF staff of Jalpaiguri Road Post rescued one runaway minor girl from Jalpaiguri Road railway station.
On the same day, the RPF staff of New Bongaigaon Post also rescued one runaway minor girl from New Bongaigaon Railway Station.
Both the rescued minors were handed over to Child Welfare Committee, Jalpaiguri and Bongaigaon for their safe custody, the statement informed.
The NFR further informed that during the month of December 2023, a total of 43 minors and three women were rescued by RPF-NFR and handed over to respective Child Line/NGO’s, parents and GRP for safe custody.
Besides, the RPF team of ‘Meri Saheli’ under NFR provides assistance to the women passengers travelling alone in trains and in December, 2023, about 1958 women passengers were assisted by the team, it said.
“Preventive measures are being taken to take action in case children in need of care and protection are found in trains and railway premises,” it added.
