Maligaon, July 3 (MExN): The Dog Squad of Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Northeast Frontier Railway helped in recovering huge quantity of Ganja and mobile handsets while conducting drives against carrying of contraband articles at Badarpur Railway station from June 30 to July 1.
Ganja weighing about 15.5 kg worth Rs 1.55 lakh and 24 mobile handsets worth Rs 2.4 lakh were recovered during the checking, according to a press release from NFR Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyaschi De on Sunday.
In an incident on June 28, RPF and Dog Squad of Badarpur conducted a drive on the Agartala - Silchar Express during which the team detected one unclaimed bag. On opening the bag, they found three packets of Ganja weighing about 7.5 kg worth Rs 75,000 approximately. Similarly, on June 30, a team conducting a drive on train no 15663 detected an unclaimed trolley bag with five packets of Ganja weighing about 5 kg, worth Rs 50,000 approximately.
In another incident on the same day on the same train, the same team detected one unclaimed bag which contained a packet of 24 used android mobile phone handsets worth approximately Rs 2.4 lakh. Later, the recovered Ganja and mobile handsets were handed over to OC, GRP, Badarpur for further action, the release stated.
As per the release, on July 1, a team of RPF and Dog Squad of Badarpur while checking on Train no 15663 detected one unclaimed bag inside the toilet of a coach. On opening the bag, they found two packets of Ganja weighing about 3 kg, worth approximately Rs 30,000 which were later handed over to OC, GRP, Badarpur for further action, it said.
