
I was asking many times a query concerning that whether Salvation Army Church used BIBLE or not? It’s a strange it shocks me at the beginning but simply my response was the same; The BIBLE which a today Christian use is accepted but among the different version New International Version was adopted internationally. And there are a many Christian churches in the world with different denomination. Then Salvation Army Church is among them serving in 122 countries.
The Salvation Army Church is a worldwide evangelical Christian church with its own distinctive governance and practice. The Army’s doctrine follows the mainstream of Christian belief and its articles of faith emphasise God’s saving purposes. Its religious and charitable objects are ‘the advancement of the Christian religion… and, pursuant thereto, the advancement of education, the relief of poverty, and other charitable objects beneficial to society or the community of mankind as a whole. The movement, founded in London, England in 1865 by William and Catherine Booth a pastor of Methodist New Connexion has spread in many parts of the world. The Salvation Army Church has used to advantage certain soldiery feature such as uniforms, flags and ranks to identify, inspire and regulate its endeavours.
Evangelistic and social enterprises are maintained under the authority of the General, by full-time officers (Pastors) and employees, as well as Salvationist who give service in their free time. The Salvation Army Church also benefits from the support of many adherents and friends, including those who serve on advisory board.
Salvationists accept a disciplined and compassionate life of high moral standards which includes abstinence from alcohol and tobacco. From its earliest days Salvation Army Church has accorded women equal opportunities, every rank and service being open to them, and from childhood the young are encouraged to love and serve God. The main message based no other than Bible. Knowing for God so love the world that who gave the only begotten SON (John 3:16) also the ministry inspired and motivated by the love of God.
Raised to evangelise, the Army spontaneously embarked on schemes for the social betterment of the poor. Such concerns developed, wherever the Army operates, in practical, skilled and cost-effective ways. Evolving social services meet academic needs and specific crises worldwide.
The need for modernization and longer-term development is under continual review. Increasingly, the Salvation Army Church’s policy and its indigenous membership allow it to cooperate with the international relief agencies and governments alike. The Army’s partnership with both private and public philanthropy will continue to bring comfort to the needy, while the proclamation of God’s redemptive love is revealed in Jesus Christ offers individuals and communities the opportunity to know spiritual fulfillment here on earth and a place in Christ’s eternal kingdom.
Salvation Army Church is headed by General elected by the member of High Council comprising of all active Commissioners, except the spouse of General, and all Territorial Commander. Presently, General of the Salvation Army is Linda Bond. It is a centralize Church.
The Salvation Army Church though it is similar to army, so to say as a God’s Army and administration is similar to an Army. All the members are encouraged to wear uniforms and the Pastors/Officers should compulsorily wear. The General is assisted by Chief of the staff followed by International Secretary. Territorial Commander is assisted by Executive Secretary and Corps Officers/Pastors and they are responsible for the church. Rank is given according to the service, Lieutenant, Captain, Major, Lt. Colonel, Colonel and Commissioner. Any rank can be assign to look after the church as pastor and office staff with a clear tenure.
The Salvation Army Church divide the world into (5) five zone, they are:- Africa, America and Caribbean, Europe, South Asia & South Pacific and East Asia. India is under South Asia zone. India is also divided into 6 territories. India Eastern Territory covers all N.E. India and a part of West Bengal. Headquarter is situated in Aizawl, Mizoram
Social Work is the main objective of the Salvation Army Church. The Salvation Army Church regards giving necessary needs to other fellow human being without partiality in the responsibilities whether it belongs to its own or not. Salvation Army Church is the pioneer in Social work among Indian and starts in 1942. It has 23,704 Social Work Centre in the world and has a large number of people benefiting from it.
The work of the Salvation Army Church in Kohima Nagaland commenced since 1992. The work is been proceeding towards fulfillment of its humble mission. And from that onwards it focuses the aim of social work to uplift the poor and the downtrodden. It collects Self Denial regular to the member every year and it was given to the poor and the needy through the main office. In this contribution the public who are well aware of the Salvation Army Church works contribute regularly. By this small system there is a no. of people who benefitted it. (a) After School Care so to say as a free tuition was successfully conducted in 2008-2010 from the different community by adopting to empower children sponsor from the main office(in the Salvation Army Church term THQ) and a large no. of students received benefit from it.(b)Alternative School in 2010. Alternative Schooling is a kind of informal school for Never enrolls and school drop out students to conduct the class at their own convenient time in the morning, daytime or in the evening. The Alternative School focuses on the children between the age group of 6 to 14 years of age, who are lacking behind the opportunities to enter the normal school, and at the same time mainstreaming the children is the main focus and few drop out are send back to school and join a normal life.
