SAPO demands swift and 'uncompromising action’ in young woman’s death in Kohima

Kohima, October 28 (MExN): The Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) has strongly appealed to the State Government and the Superintendent of Police, Kohima, demanding immediate and uncompromising action in response to the “brutal and heinous murder” of a young woman in Kohima.

In an urgent petition, SAPO called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of those responsible for the act of violence.

“We earnestly implore your swift intervention and decisive measures to ensure that justice is delivered without delay and without compromise,” the petition read.

The body of the 22-year-old woman was found under mysterious circumstances at Old Ministers’ Hill Colony in Kohima on October 25. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Kohima Police is currently probing the case.

Meanwhile, SAPO extended its solidarity to the grieving family and community, condemning the “egregious act of brutality,” which it said violated cultural values, societal norms, and principles of justice. The organisation called for a comprehensive, transparent, and expeditious investigation to ensure the perpetrators are identified and brought to justice.

Those responsible must be vigorously prosecuted under relevant legal provisions, including murder, SAPO added, urging authorities to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.

The organisation expressed hope that the police would conduct a meticulous investigation, ensuring no detail is overlooked. “Such diligence will ensure the case is comprehensively understood by the judiciary, supported by irrefutable evidence, and result in a just conviction,” it held.

SAPO also highlighted the need to reinforce security measures, uphold the rule of law, and reaffirm collective resolve to protect society, justice, and human dignity. It pledged full cooperation with the authorities throughout the arrest and investigation process, stressing the importance of prompt, fair, and comprehensive resolution.

The organisation further urged citizens to report any suspicious activity or intelligence to law enforcement, noting that such cooperation is vital for the swift apprehension of the perpetrator.

“Acts of heinous murder have no place in society and constitute the gravest affront to human dignity and the rule of law,” SAPO stated, calling for prosecution of the offender(s) to the fullest extent of justice.

Reposing faith in the police, the organisation expressed hope that authorities, in collaboration with specialised units such as the Crime Branch, forensic experts, medical investigators, and cybercrime divisions, will exhaust all resources and expertise to resolve the case swiftly.
