Shamator | November 8
To commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man of India, a District Level Unity Rally was oragnised by the District Administration, Shamator, in collaboration with MY Bharat Tuensang on November 8.
The rally commenced from Lower Police Point and concluded at Soil Gate, led by the Assam Rifles Pipe Band. Major Rajesh Khannan of 32 Assam Rifles, Shamator, flagged off the march. The culmination programme was later held at the Cultural Hall, Shamator.
Participants from the Assam Rifles, Police Department, schools, student unions, tribal councils, NGOs, and various government departments actively took part in the event, which highlighted Patel’s vision of national unity and integrity.
The culmination programme featured vibrant cultural presentations, including traditional dances and songs performed by the Yimkhiung Tribal Council and the Tikhir Tribal Council.
Speaking at the programme, Kishor Barman, District Youth Officer, MY Bharat Tuensang, in his address, paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s legacy as a symbol of unity, courage, and statesmanship. “Born on 31st October 1875, Sardar Patel’s life stands as a shining example of determination, integrity, and selfless service to the nation,” he said.
He highlighted Patel’s pivotal role in the historic integration of over 560 princely states, his contribution as India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, and his establishment of the All India Services termed the “Steel Frame of India.” The officer encouraged the gathering to uphold Patel’s vision of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat (One India, Great India), reminding that “our true strength lies in our diversity and unity.”
To mark the occasion, a week-long series of activities was organized in the district, including essay and debate competitions, poster making, cleanliness drives, yoga and wellness sessions, and talks on the life and contributions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
