Kohima, September 13 (MExN): The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (SAYO) has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to immediately commence restoration work on the landslide-affected road at Phesama, citing prolonged disruption and growing safety concerns.
A SAYO team visited the affected area at Phesama village in the early hours of September 9 and observed that no restoration work was underway despite the continued disruption caused by the landslide.
According to SAYO, the affected road is vital for Southern Angami villages and serves as a major link between Nagaland and neighbouring Manipur. Its continued disruption has caused inconvenience to commuters and affected the movement of essential goods and services.
During the visit, SAYO consulted the Phesama Village Council and Phesama Youth Organisation (PYO), who expressed concern over what they described as a lack of proper coordination among NHIDCL, government authorities and village authorities.
The PYO president also highlighted safety risks associated with the temporary bypass, which carries thousands of vehicles daily. The steep and rocky terrain becomes particularly hazardous during heavy rainfall, raising concerns over the safety of commuters, SAYO stated.
SAYO acknowledged the Phesama Village Council, PYO and residents for their continued assistance to commuters during the disruption.
The organisation urged NHIDCL to commence restoration work without further delay and take all necessary measures to restore safe and normal connectivity.
SAYO also assured its full cooperation and assistance to facilitate and expedite the restoration process.
