Kohima, October 17 (MExN): Sazolie College Jotsoma, (SCJ) celebrated its Foundation Day on the 15 October with Chubainla Jamir, Director of Higher Education, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, the chief guest expressed her happiness over the progress and development of the college within a short span of time.
Jamir also spoke about National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) and urged the college to work towards being assessed and accredited and also emphasized that a college can be de-recognized and denied the assistance of UGC of it remains unaccredited.
She acknowledged the college for starting something new and unique like the Annual Inter-College Debate Competition, which is benefitting the students and the people in general and asked to college to introduce more job-oriented professional and vocational courses that will benefit the students. “Don’t let others overtake you. Let excellence be your target”, she added appealing the students never to be satisfied with simply getting a degree, but their goal should be to acquire knowledge because it will remain with them no matter what happens. She urged them to strive to become socially efficient, to discover themselves, their gifts and skills, and utilize it to the fullest; and that only hard work and determination will bring them success.
The Programme which was chaired by Mrs. Jamkhanmoi, the Academic Dean, included Invocation Prayer by Mr. Nzanthung Kikon, the college Chaplain, Welcome Address by Dr. Luke Rymbai, the Vice-Principal, brief account of the History of Sazolie College by Dr. Niu W. Kuotsu, the Principal, and Vote of Thanks by Mr. Waloniba Jamir, the Dean of Students. The programme also included a speech on behalf of the Alumni by Ms. Mechuni Whiso; songs by Sazolie College Choir and Toshinaro (Naga Idol 2009) who is an alumnus of the college, and a drama by Sazolie Theatrical Troupe. Two past students Kangyile Thou (English Honours) and Betsy Imjongyala Imchen (History Honours) were also felicitated for obtaining 1st Rank, 1st Division and 2nd Rank 1st Division, respectively, in the 2009 NU Exams. Another highlight of the day was the Carnival organized by the Sazolie College
Students’ Council.
