State level open arm-wrestling C'ship held

Chief Guest Colo Mero and National Gold medalist Vemugou Hoshi engaged in an exhibiting match as part of opening of the 2011 state level open arm-wrestling championship.
 
Kohima | May 14 : Edging out 70 male competitors in the 2011 state level open arm-wrestling championship held today here at the TT Stadium Kohima, Vizosal Rote s/o Krosal Rote of Kedima Village from Kohima District was crowned the “Over the Top champion”. The championship organized by the Arm Challenge Organization was graced by Colo Mero, Director, Life Ministry as the chief guest.
Addressing the championship, Mero said, sports is a platform for developing the mentality of an individual, to reach the downtrodden youths even in the remote areas and catching up the living standard with the rest of the world. Citing an instance of the President of Arm Challenge Organization Vemugou Hoshi-the National Arm-Wrestling Gold medalist and International competitor, Mero said, Hoshi was his student during his college life and was an active member of Life Ministries.
“I am indeed a lover of sports.” Mero asserted. He said, football being the favourite game of the Nagas the Life Ministries is on the process of organizing various tournaments and in the meantime managing teams for the promotion of the event.
Urging upon the day’s competitor to take up the spirit of real competition, he said, one should aim to reach the international arena like Hoshi as he has paved a big way for the youngsters specially the Naga youth; he further urged them to choose any opted discipline on professionalism.
Mero while expressing his confident over the organizers to carry their initiative under long run plan and policy under the guide of President Vemugou Hoshi further wished their journey success.
Teisobou Sekhose District Sports Officer (DSO) Kohima and Administrator, IGS, Kohima, Vezuhu Keyho, Principal, Capital College of Higher Education (CCHE), Surhonieyi Soho, Technical Director, Phek District Sports Association (PDSA), other prominent wrestlers and sports lovers witness the day long championship.
The best three winners in their respective categories would walked away with a cash of 3,000/-, 2,000/- and 1,000/- respectively along with citation. Meanwhile, the entire cash prize for the bronze medalists was sponsored by Er. Vekho Swuro.
According to the organizers, 70 Male participants under different categories and 15 female participants from across Nagaland took part in the championship.
The Arm Challenge Organization, while conveying its appreciation to the entire participants for actively partaking in the championship and making it successful. The organizer has announced that the championship will be continued as an annual event.

60 Kg & Below
Gold    : Kechaselhou Kehie
Silver : Metsiekholie Pienyu
Bronze : Nuba Hoshi
61-70 Kg
Gold    :  Vizosal Rote
Silver : Neisakuolie Nipu
Bronze : Phrochuzolie Visezo
71 & above Kg
Gold    : Thuputo Venuh
Silver : Vingozo Kiso
Bronze : Demeyol Rhetso
In women category, Vizokhono Phinyo won the gold while Kuchonelu Soho and Neisakonuo Metha won the silver and bronze respectively.
