The indefinite agitation launched by students and community organisations of Sungro Range over the prolonged shortage of teachers at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Sungro, entered its second day on November 3.

Students continued their protest, reiterating their demand for immediate appointment of adequate teaching and non-teaching staff at the institution.

The agitation, which began on November 2, was launched by student bodies and village councils of Pangti, Okotso, Sungro, Old and New Aree, Yanthamo and Asha villages following years of alleged neglect and unaddressed grievances over the shortage of teachers.

The protesting students maintained that the absence of teachers in several subjects had adversely affected their academic progress, with some having to appear for examinations without completing their prescribed syllabus.

Holding placards with messages such as “Save My School, Save My Career”, “Stop Injustice, Do Justice” and “We Are the Future, Teach Us”, the students appealed to the authorities to address their grievances and safeguard their academic future.

The joint organisations have maintained that the agitation would continue until the concerned department provides a written assurance and fulfils their demand for adequate staff at GHSS Sungro.
