At least nine people have died in a suspected case of spurious liquor consumption in Tuensang district, prompting the state police to issue a public warning against consuming liquor.
According to information shared by Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma on his official Facebook page on September 12, the deaths were reported at the Civil Hospital in Tuensang.
The fatalities are suspected to be linked to the consumption of spurious liquor, suspected as “MC Rum.”
The Nagaland DGP, in its advisory, requested and advised all people in the state not to consume liquor, especially in the districts of Mon, Mokokchung, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Shamator and Noklak. Others have also been requested to abstain from consuming liquor as a precautionary measure.
“Alarming information coming from Tuensang. At least 9 deaths reported from Civil Hospital, Tuensang. Suspected to be Spurious Liquor. Suspected to be ‘MC Rum’,” read the DGP’s post.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing, the police said. However, no further details were available until the filing of this report.
