Teachers of government schools continue agitating demanding 7th Pay structure.

Demanding immediate implementation of 7th Pay, teachers under the aegis of Council Of Teachers' Association (COTA) have been on cease-work strike.

As a part of their stir, the teachers have been staging protest at the Zonal Education Offices (ZEOs) since the beginning of the current month, February.

On Thursday afternoon, teachers stormed at ZEO Wangoi in Imphal West district and staged a protest inside the office complex. During the protest they shouted various slogans.

Talking to reporters, COTA co-convenor, Dr Hitendro Singh stated that though 7th Pay or similar pay structure for the teachers has already been introduced in other states in Northeast, it is yet to be implemented in the state. He then questioned the rationale behind non-implementation of the 7th Pay to the teachers of the state till date when the price of essential commodities are soaring high.

He cautioned that different forms of agitation will be launched if the state government still remains adamant despite the series of protest demanding implementation of the 7th Pay structure.

He also said that similar protest demonstrations will be staged in other ZEOs in the coming days.

“We Care for Education", "No Rectification, No Rest" and "We Demand Rectification of ROP" were displayed during the demonstration.

COTA is an apex body of several teachers’ organisations - All Manipur Government Lecturer Welfare Association (AMGLWA), All Manipur Promotee Government Higher Secondary Lecturer Welfare Association (AMPGHSLWA), All Manipur Graduate Teachers' Welfare Association (AMGTA), All Manipur Secondary School Teachers' Association (AMSSTA) and All Manipur Elementary School Teachers' Association (AMESTA).
