Imphal | February 23
The Federation of Government College Teachers’ Association (FEGOCTA) has condemned the police action for halting their protest rally in Imphal.
The agitating teachers from various colleges had converged at Maharaja Budhachandra College, Imphal for the silent rally. It was reported that a team of police with “riot gears” prevented the teachers from carrying out the rally.
Talking to reporters, FEGOCTA, General Secretary, Dr N Somorendro said that the silent rally was against the non-implementation of 7th Pay and Regulations, 2018. He reaffirmed that the teachers will not retreat from the strike until and unless the state government issues necessary orders implementing the UGC policy.
Meanwhile, the FEGOCTA in a statement issued on Tuesday, strongly condemnation the “police violence” on the protesting students on February 22. “FEGOCTA’s agitation is not against the students,” it added. “FEGOCTA firmly believes that the unprecedented 5th FEGOCTA agitation can be resolved any time, if there is a strong political will,” it stated.
