The devil's a liar: you are not here by accident

There is a voice, harsh, relentless, and merciless, that whispers to the human heart. It tells us we are too far gone, too worthless, too broken for God’s mercy. It paints our failures as final sentences, our addictions as permanent stamps on our souls, our families as doomed, and our future as a closed door. For many, those whispers grow into roaring accusations that lead to despair, depression, and sometimes even thoughts of ending life.

Don’t believe the devil’s lies. Your existence is not random, you were created on purpose by a loving Creator. God made you as an original, not a copy, and there is no one else who can do what He’s given you to do. That’s why you matter so deeply to Him: your life contains a calling and a contribution only you can make. Even when you stumble, even when voices of shame or doubt mock you, hold fast to the truth, God has a plan for you, and He will use your story for His glory. Failures are not verdicts; they are steps on the road God is walking with you.

This article speaks particularly to those drowning in that voice. It exposes where it comes from, explains how to recognize it, and then points firmly to the one truth that breaks its power: Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross.

The Familiar Voice of Condemnation

You are a sinner and you will never be loved by God. You will always remain the same. There is no turning back. Nobody loves you. You will never get married. You will fail. God has left you. You are destined for Hell. You should end it all.

These are not new words. They are the same old lies that have echoed since the beginning of time. They come wrapped in religion, in shame, in our own thoughts, and sometimes even from the mouths of people committed to God but themselves deceived. The devil’s strategy is familiarity: speak the same lie often enough and the heart will believe it.

John 8:44 calls the devil what he is: "a liar and the father of lies." He specializes in turning truth into terror, grace into guilt, and God’s patience into perceived absence.

Why that Voice Is Not from God

The heart of the gospel is this: God is love. God does not delight in the undoing of His creation. He does not gloat over our failures. Scripture repeatedly tells us that God’s heart is to restore, to redeem, and to bring life.

Consider these biblical truths:

*    God made you on purpose. You are not an accident. You are an original, handcrafted by a loving Creator who delights in you.

*    God has a plan for you. Jeremiah 29:11 declares that the LORD knows the plans he has for you, plans to prosper you and give you hope and a future.

*    God’s Word is truth. John 17:17 (Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth) fixes our anchor: if it does not align with Scripture, it is not from God.

If God promises hope, future, and restoration in His Word, then the voice that says otherwise cannot claim Him. Those lies are counterfeit, tools of the enemy to rob, kill, and destroy.

The Cost of Believing the Lie

When people believe these condemning voices, the consequences are devastating:

*    Spiritual isolation. People withdraw from church and fellowship because they believe God won’t accept them.

*    Emotional collapse. Shame turns into depression, anxiety, and paralysis.

*    Relational ruin. Families, marriages, and friendships break under the weight of accusation and fear.

*    Suicidal despair. The worst consequence: loved ones convinced they are better off dead than forgiven.

The enemy’s goal is to make sin feel bigger than grace. But the cross says otherwise.

The Gospel That Frees: What Jesus Actually Did

There is one thing that changed everything: Jesus Christ took our sin upon Himself. He carried guilt, shame, condemnation, and death to the cross and defeated them there. The truth that sets free is not moral improvement or endless penance, it is the finished work of Christ.

Key truths to hold on to:

*    There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. (Romans 8:1) Grace is not an idea — it is a legal, spiritual reality.

*    You are a new creation in Christ. (2 Corinthians 5:17) Your identity is no longer defined by failure.

*    Jesus invites you to come as you are. Not to hide, but to be healed.

These are not platitudes. They are the core claims of Scripture that, when believed and received by faith, shift a person from bondage to freedom.

A Personal Witness: How Truth Replaced Lies

Many of us who write and preach these words were once victims of these exact lies. I remember the paralyzing whisper: God is mad at you. You have sinned beyond redemption. It is better to finish it all. Those words felt like my own thoughts, a voice from within. I prayed, repented, and tried harder , yet the chains remained.

The very first whisper was simple but deadly: God is angry with you; your sin is too great, you’re bound for hell. That thought planted a cold fear of death in my heart. Guilt and condemnation became a cycle: a thousand repentance prayers, endless self-punishment, yet nothing silenced the ache. When I was weakest, the tempter moved from fear to finality: There’s no hope for you now, you should end it and be free. Those words were not the voice of God but the voice of a liar trying to steal my hope. At one point I was in a fear of death because of going to hell and the next attack was despair, the devil whispered to me” just accept it, and end this suffering, you are going to hell anyways, be it now or later”

What changed for me was this: I began to intentionally feed on God’s truth. I listened to biblically faithful teaching on grace from God's word Again and Again. I sat under Scripture preached clearly about what Christ accomplished. The truth did not remove temptation overnight, but it slowly dismantled the accusation. The Word wrapped around my wounds and led me back to the feet of Jesus. I started knowing the truth that it is not my efforts but what Christ has done for me.

Three practical realities helped:

1.    Seek Help from biblical and Spirit Filled Counselors: I did not give up but I sought for help and it is never wrong to seek help when you need it. God has placed teachers, preachers and leaders who have gone ahead to help us. But we should also discern who to approach for every religious leader are not biblical based. The Spirit of God will help you find them if we humble and seek help.

2.    Repeated hearing of Faith based word. Not every sermon or counselor is helpful; find sound voices that proclaim Jesus and grace, the gospel that proclaims forgiveness, not just commands.

3.    Literal application of Scripture. Memorize and speak truth back to the lies. The enemy hates it when Scripture is used against his accusations.

How to Recognize the Enemy’s Lies

Not every negative thought is demonic, but many destructive patterns are shaped by the enemy’s tactics. Here are signs that a voice is not from God:

*    It isolates you from God and others.

*    It leads toward hopelessness, self-harm, or despair.

*    It contradicts Scripture or takes God’s truth out of context.

*    It accuses you repeatedly without leading to repentance that produces change.

If a voice makes you feel worthless, unlovable, or beyond hope, test it against God’s Word.

Words to the One Who Feels Beyond Hope

Beloved, if you hear these terrifying claims today, hear me: they are lies. You are not forgotten. You are not an accident. God is for you. The cross proves it. You are invited back.

It is okay to be honest about how you feel. It is okay to cry. It is okay to grieve. But do not accept the lie that you are beyond God’s mercy.
Come to the God who welcomes the repentant, who heals the broken, and who restores the lost. Stand at the foot of the cross and hear your name called by the Savior who paid it all.

Hope that Changes Everything

The enemy is relentless, but his accusations have been defeated. The truth is bigger than the lie. Jesus died for you and rose for you. That alone rewrites your story from condemnation to acceptance, from despair to hope, from shame to identity in Christ.

If you are reading this and are tempted to believe the lies: reach out. Tell someone. Read the Word. Find a community of believers who preach grace. God has a plan for you, a plan for hope and a future.

You are Highly Favoured, Deeply Loved and Richly Blessed By God in Christ and Nothing In All Creation Can Seperate You From The Love Of God That Is In Christ Jesus.
