Police in Manipur have rescued three teenage girls from the traffickers.
An organisation called Wide Angle, in a statement signed by its convener Montu Ahanthem, lauded the rescue of the three girls by the police in a joint operation with the members of Manipur Alliance for Child Rights (MACR) and Child Rights and You (CRY).
It said, on August 3 last, MACR Chandel informed that three girls from a particular locality were missing since early morning from their respective houses.
After confirming the missing report by the MACR headquarters, an alert was sounded and a special task force was formed which immediately contacted the Imphal police station for alerting the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit stationed at the airport in Imphal.
A missing report was lodged by the parents of the two girls at Moreh police station at 10.30 am with the help of members of the MACR.
One of the constables at Moreh check post informed that they had seen the girls heading for Imphal following which Thoubal SP Dr Ibomcha was also alerted so that they could intercept the girls on the way.
A police officer in the Imphal police station informed that around 12.30 pm, one of the girls was rescued from the booking counter at the airport and the other two from a bus ticket counter in Imphal’s North AOC.
They were then handed over to Special Juvenile Police Unit of Singjamei police station and kept at Child Friendly Police Station Lamphel.
