Three held with heroin, firearm

DIMAPUR, MAY 22 (MExN): A substance suspected to be banned heroin was confiscated in Dimapur on Sunday, May 22. The contraband was neatly wrapped in polythene and weighed one kilogram in quantity. According to the Additional Superintendent of Police, Dimapur Wati Jamir, the seizure was made around 1:00 pm today by personnel of the 24 Assam Rifles during routine security frisking conducted at Thahekhu village.  
Three persons were arrested in this connection. They were identified as one Hito Achumi, S/o Hokivi Achumi of Shekto village; a Kakheto Chophy, S/o Sevukhu Chophy of Pifhikhu village; and one Akai Assumi, S/o Xutovi Assumi of Akuluto town. They were travelling in a ‘Maruti 800’ (WB 24C 5906).   Three ‘tax’ receipts purportedly of the FGN’s ‘Ministry of Chaplee Affairs’ and one .75 calibre pistol alongwith two magazines and an ammunition were also seized from their possession.
All three were booked under the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The Additional SP stated that seized substance will be sent for forensic analysis. Further investigation is on to trace its origin and destination.
