DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 21 (MExN): Writer and retired professor of geology of Gauhati University, Pranavjyoti Deka and author Nandeswar Daimari from Assam, and Sorokkhaibam Gambhini from Manipur have won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi awards for 2023 for their respective works.
Dr Pranavjyoti Deka, a prominent short story writer, novelist, researcher, dictionary writer and professor from Assam won the 2023 Sahitya Akademi Award in the Short Stories category for his book ‘srestha golpo’ in Assamese. The collection of short stories was published by Pranabjyoti Deka in 2021. Dr Pranavjyoti Deka was born on July 21, 1939, in Kolkata.
Nandeswar Daimari was also won the 2023 Sahitya Akademi Award in the Short Story category for his book “Jiu Safarni Dakhwn” in Bodo language.
Tripura’s famous Manipuri (Meithei) poetess Sorak Khaibom Gambhini has won this year’s prestigious ‘Sahitya Academy’ award for her book of poems titled ‘Jachangnobang.’
According to a PIB report, Gambhini won the award along with Vijay Verma (Dogri), Vinod Joshi (Gujarati), Manshoor Banihali (Kashmiri), Ashutosh Parida (Odia), Swarnjit Savi (Punjabi), Gaje Singh Rajpurohit (Rajasthani), Arun Ranjan Mishra (Sanskrit) and Vinod Asudani (Sindhi).
Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 24 languages. 9 books of poetry, 6 of novel, 5 of short stories, 3 Essays and 1 Literary Study have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2023.
The Awards, recommended by distinguished Jury members in 24 Indian languages, were approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met on 20th December, 2023 under the Chairmanship of Sri Madhav Kaushik, President, Sahitya Akademi.
The Award in the form of a casket containing an engraved copper-plaque, a shawl and an amount of Rs 1,00,000/- towards cash content each will be presented to the awardees at the award presentation function which will be held on March 12, 2024 at Kamani Auditorium, Copernicus Marg, New Delhi- 110 001, the PIB report informed.
