‘Tokhu Emong celebrated with a difference’

Dimapur, November 7 (MExN): Along with the rest of Nagaland state, the Lotha (Kyong) community of Purana Bazaar Area (East Dimapur) celebrated ‘Tokhu Emong’-the premier festival of the community- at Kushiabill ground with former Nagaland IPR minister, Thomas Ngullie, as the chief guest. The celebration was a marked difference from other ‘Tokhu Emong’ celebrations as besides the usual traditional songs and dances, the elderly citizens, orphans and meritorious students were given due space and honour in the celebration.
Addressing the festive gathering, the chief guest said that besides the pomp and gaiety associated with any festive gatherings, one should always remember the contribution of the elders as well as remember the plight of the unfortunate ones.
In a generous gesture, Thomas committed to contribute Rs. 5,000 annually to all senior Kyong elders above 80 years of the Purana Bazaar area. Besides, the former minister also declared to personally sponsor two Lotha students from Purana Bazaar, two students from Golden Crown Centre, Nagarjan (Kuda Village), and another four students from Under Privilege Children Home, Pudum Pukhuri.
The names of all the beneficiary students were declared and announced after a lucky lottery draw. Highlights of the festival included traditional rice pounding competition, special numbers by Golden Crown Centre and talented Kyong artistes, followed by a grand traditional feast.
