A two-day training programme aimed at improving the quality of education and nutrition at Anganwadi centres in Zunheboto was launched on April 3. The training, which will run through to April 4, is being held at the CDPO office, Asuto Project, and has seen the participation of 26 Anganwadi workers. The programme is designed to strengthen the capacity of these workers to provide effective Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) while addressing key nutritional challenges faced by children during their formative years.

The resource persons for the training included Hino N Awomi, Block Coordinator of Poshan Bhi Padhan Bhi, Kheto K Sumi, Supervisor of ICDS Project Asuto, and Erenbeni Kikon, CDPO of ICDS Asuto. They shared insights on the importance of a structured, weekly play-based calendar for ECCE, focusing on interactive learning methods to enhance cognitive and social development in young children.

A key aspect of the training was addressing the issue of malnutrition, particularly Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM), and understanding the crucial role of micronutrient nutrition in a child’s overall growth. The sessions also highlighted the significance of personal hygiene and sanitation, both for children and caregivers, in preventing infections and maintaining a healthier learning environment.

The training programme also covered state policies and practices concerning early childhood nutrition and development, with a focus on identifying and supporting vulnerable children within the community. A special session introduced participants to the Poshan Tracker App, a digital tool designed to monitor and track the growth and nutritional status of children, empowering Anganwadi workers with an innovative way to ensure children’s well-being.

Additionally, the training emphasised the role of parental engagement and community mobilisation. Sessions on involving caregivers and local stakeholders underscored the importance of creating a supportive ecosystem for early childhood development.

Through a combination of interactive discussions, practical demonstrations, and case studies, the training aimed to equip Anganwadi workers with the skills and knowledge necessary to implement effective education and nutrition programmes in their respective centres. The hands-on activities provided participants with practical insights into applying these learning to real-world scenarios, ensuring they are well-prepared to make a tangible difference in the lives of children in their communities.
