Training for trade union activists held at Dimapur

DIMAPUR | NOVEMBER 24 : A 3-day special state level training programme for trade union activists was held from November 22-24 at the conference hall of Hotel Alvyn Dimapur under the theme, “Empowerment of Trade for Socio-Economic Development of North Eastern Region.”
The programme was organised by Central Board for Workers’ Education, Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India Regional Directorate Imphal in association with Dimapur Motor Workers’ Trade Union.
Gracing the valedictory function on Thursday as the chief guest, assistant labour commissioner, department of labour Nagaland, Renchamo Ngullie said despite the fact that the advancement of technology has reduced manual works yet labour force was still a requirement. He cited instances of manual works being reduced owing to the presence excavators but added that the works of labourers did not end with that and instead continued to be a necessity. He called upon the trade union activists to become leaders in the society and go ahead of the followers.
Dimapur Taxi Drivers’ Union president, Hetoi Chophy in his speech lamented that the trade unions in the state were not getting the required assistance from the government. “Whatever is granted for us must reach us,” he added.
During the inaugural programme on November 22, the president of Dimapur Motor Workers’ Trade Union, L. Ghoshito Sema who was the chief guest spoke of the ample existence of trade unions in the state and how beneficial it could become if all the unions played the right role with dedication and integrity. He urged the unions to rise above individual interest and work for the public.
During the 3-day programme, the trade union activists were sensitized on the prevention of HIV and AIDS and the role of trade workers, challenges before the trade unions in the development of NE region, brief outline on the labour laws being in force in the state, desirable industrial relations for growth of organisation and national economy etc. Altogether 9 trade unions from the state participated in
the programme.
