Two NAA officials attend AFI Starters’ Course at Patiala

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 20 (MExN): Two officials nominated by the Nagaland Athletics Association participated in the Starters’ Course organised by the Athletics Federation of India from January 14 to 17 at the SAI Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Patiala, according to a press release.

The officials were B. Bongshet Phom and Tokuho Sumi. The course was conducted under the guidance of Allan Bell from the United Kingdom, an internationally recognised starter from the World Athletics Starters Panel. The programme focused on advanced technical knowledge and global best practices related to starting procedures, rules and officiating standards in athletics.

Tokuho Sumi is a qualified Federation State Technical Official under the Athletics Federation of India. He holds a Bachelor of Physical Education and is currently working as an athletics coach. The press release stated that his background reflects academic, technical and practical experience in the field.

B. Bongshet Phom is a qualified District Technical Official under the Athletics Federation of India and is serving as a Physical Education Teacher. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and has also completed a Certificate in Athletics from the Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports, Kolkata.

The Starters’ Course is aimed at strengthening the technical capacity of athletics officials and ensuring alignment with national and international officiating standards. The participation of Nagaland Athletics Association officials in the programme was described as a step towards improving the quality of technical officiating in the state.

The Nagaland Athletics Association conveyed its appreciation to the Athletics Federation of India for providing the opportunity and reiterated its commitment to the continuous professional development of officials and coaches for the advancement of athletics in Nagaland, the press release said.
