UCO Bank marks 84 years with plantation drive, health camps and new branch opening

Jorhat (Assam), January 7 (MExN): UCO Bank, a Government of India undertaking, celebrated its 84th foundation day on January 6 with a series of programmes focused on digital innovation, environmental responsibility, health awareness and community outreach.

Established on January 6, 1943, by industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla, UCO Bank is one of the pioneer public sector banks in the country. The bank currently operates more than 3,322 branches and 49 zonal offices across India and plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economic development.

This year’s foundation day celebrations were held with the theme of digital innovation aimed at simplifying banking, strengthening trust and empowering India for a smarter tomorrow. On the occasion, various programmes were organised by the Zonal Office, Jorhat, and all branches under the Jorhat Zone.

As part of its environmental initiatives, 84 saplings were planted at the campus of Amatawati Vridhashram, located at Patiapakhali Pathar in Jorhat district. Under the bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, an almirah was also donated to the Vridhashram for its day-to-day use.

To create public awareness, a bicycle rally was organised in the morning session of the celebrations. A health check-up camp was conducted at the Jorhat Main Branch to promote health awareness among the public. In view of the importance of blood donation in saving lives, a blood donation camp was also organised at the Zonal Office campus in Jorhat.

Zonal Head Narendra Pratap Singh, Deputy Zonal Head Hassan Ejaz Hashmi, MSME Loan Head Amit Kumar, Retail Loan Head Manoj Gogoi, Resources Head Amit Kumar, Chief Managers Nishant and Abhinav Bharti, along with other staff members of the bank, were present during the programmes.

The foundation day was also marked by a cake-cutting ceremony at the UCO Bank Jorhat Main Branch in the presence of the Deputy Zonal Head, distinguished customers, retired employees and pensioners. Feedback was collected from customers and pensioners, and assurances of improved customer service were given.

Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Zonal Head said UCO Bank remains committed to better customer service and to contributing to the economic progress of the country and society.

Coinciding with the foundation day, a new UCO Bank branch was opened and dedicated to the public at Bokakhat town in Golaghat district.

The foundation day was celebrated with enthusiasm across all 58 branches of the Jorhat Zone, along with the Lead District Manager Office.
