Imphal, November 4 (NNN): The United Naga Council (UNC) alleged the IRB and Manipur police commandos committed brutalities at Noney in Tamenglong districts on the Nagas. It said a combined team of IRB and Manipur police commandos led by DSP Krishna Tombi Singh came in 40 vehicles and led loose a reign of terror at Longmei bazar by firing in random without any provocation from the public. They also burnt down one Tata Sumo belonging to Mrs. Rebecca of Longmei Bazaar, and forcibly took away PA Equipment, alleged the UNC.
The UNC also alleged that those rogue commandos and IRB personnels also barged into a pan shop near Melody Hotel and looted a sum of Rs. 5000. They also butted a woman of more than 60 years with their service rifle butt and as a consequent, she felt unconscious and was grievously injured. These plundering police personals also looted 15 bags of Naga Chilly (Umarok) which was stored unattended at the bazaar due to total bandh. More than 500 rounds of bullets were fired in random, the UNC alleged.
The agitated public came out and confronted the unwarranted and wild action of the IRB and Police commandos. They also fired many Tear gas shells that destroyed more than 10 houses, the UNC further alleged.
"Those rouge police commandos personals used many abusive and uncivilized provocative and communal languages like “You Naga go to Nagaland, this is Manipur”. “You cannot live here”.” They even said they have come for war with the Nagas”. the Naga body said.
"Not been able to tolerate, thousands of agitated public came out and confronted them with all their might in a democratic form and the confrontation continued from 11 am till 1.45 pm. Finally, the 10th Assam Rifles came and intervened and the situation was controlled to some extent. During this incident, an Alto Car belonging to Mr. Daithoulung Kamei which was parked by the roadside was rammed down by the vehicle of IRB and Commandos when they retreated from the scene. Those panic driven vehicles also hit and had damaged water tanker of the BRTF too," it added.
The UNC strongly condemned the senseless brutality of the communal IRB and police personals in which more than 30 persons mostly women folk were seriously injured. These undisciplined and communal forces HAVE turn into a legalized gang of terror and looters. In protest against the state security excess at Longmei bazar on November 4, in addition to the total bandh, it has been decided to enforce a public curfew from 6 am to 6 pm on November 5, the UNC stated.
