Dimapur, November 30 (MExN): As per the Naga Peoples’ Convention of the July 1, 2010 to sever all political ties with the Government of Manipur and to demand from the Government of India for an “alternative arrangement” to fill up the vacuum in governance and administration created, the United Naga Council (UNC) has once again reaffirmed it demand.
During a public rally today, the UNC has reiterated its position and demand for intervention of the Government of India with an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue. The rally started from traffic point Tahamzam (Senapati) Hq and went round District Hospital down to the D.C Office and gathered at Senapati mini stadium. Thousands of people took part in the rally raising slogans. The rally is being organised under the aegis of UNC in the 4 Naga district Hq. to demonstrate their sentiments to Government of India for its delay to expedite “alternative arrangement” for the Nagas of Manipur.
UNC President, L. Adani before reading out the declaration clarified that economic blockade had been lifted due to assurances given by Home Minister on November 22 and that the Government will never be allowed to take any unilateral decision without consulting the Nagas and on request from the Ministry of Home Affairs on November 24 requesting UNC to lift the economic blockade on the National Highways.
Later, a press release issued by UNC President, L Adani and General Secretary, Gaidon Kamei stated that it appeals the GoI to “recognise the unmistakeable facts that calls for severance of ties with the communal government of Manipur, who have established legitimacy over the years to illegitimately deny the rights, land, identity, culture, time honoured traditional institutions and practices of the Nagas and tribals and to therefore intervene with an Alternative Arrangement outside the Government of Manipur.”
