DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 10 (MExN): The UNC has taken serious note to the statement of the DGP of Manipur Mr. Y. Joykumar Singh which appeared in the local paper of 7th November 2011. The UNC admitted that it had imposed 72 hours of total bandh w.e.f the midnight of 3rd November to midnight of 6th November, 2011 in all Naga areas including the National Highways i.e. NH 2, 37 and 150. The Railway lines constructional works and BRTF laborers working in National Highways were also included in the preview of the last total bandh.
However the UNC stated that the statement of the DGP Mr. Y.Joykumar contained “full of lies and rubricated news” while pointing out that the “high handedness of Manipur police Commandos and IRB was not new things to the Nagas”. “We may recall the ugly incident of May 6th 2010 at Mao-Gate where IRB and Commandos personals came and shot at the unarm Naga Public and volunteers. In the said incident 2 innocent students were instantly shot to death which hundreds of women and youths were seriously injured. 3 persons were also injured at Khunji firing at Longmei Village in Tamenglong District. Many womenfolk volunteers from Ukhrul, Chandel, Senapati and Tamenlong Districts has suffered and victimized by the brutal acts of Manipur police”, stated the UNC in its statement issued by its Publicity Wing.
According to the UNC, on the 4th November, 2011, those IRB and Police Commandos did not ask or approach any one of the local leaders, bandh volunteers at Longmei. “That they were coming only to bring back those police personals who came back from Taosem after the Union Home Minister’s visit to Tamenglong District”. The UNC stated that those police personals came to Noney and started indiscriminate firing without any warning or provocation rhymes or reasons. “Are the Naga public sub-human beings or could they be shot or kill at will any time by communal Manipur police forces. The statement of the DGP Manipur was a bunch of lies”.
The UNC also stated that the announcement made by some valley base civil societies like UCM, AMUCO etc which had declared civil war and bloodshed against the Nagas some days back had only added fuel to the fire. “And the announcement was implemented by the communal force sent by the communal GOM connivance with those communalist civil societies”, the UNC alleged.
As such the UNC pointed out that the “Nagas cannot live peacefully in Manipur any longer that culminated to the demand of Alternative Arrangement outside the communal state government pending final Indo-Naga solution. The UNC draws the attention of the GOI for immediate intervention before the situation is gone out of control”.
