Mokokchung, November 2 (MExN): The Clark Centre for Peace Research and Action (CCPRA), in its endeavour to promote peace and harmony in the society, will be conducting some peace programmes at Kohima and Dimapur on November 4 and 6 respectively. The programme titled ‘Promoting Just Peace Through Art - An evening of drama, songs and music’ will be held at Chakhesang Baptist Church, Kitsubozuo, Kohima on November 4 starting from 5 Pm, and at Dimapur the Dimapur Ao Baptist Church (Duncan Bosti) on November 6 starting from 5:30 Pm. Trained artistes from the Clark Theological College who will be presenting some dramas, songs and instrumental music at the programme. Besides, other locally renowned artistes will also be joining in the Clark Theological team and convey messages of peace through their performances.
The Programme coordinator of CCPRA, Akumsungla Aier disclosed that the singers from the Nagaland Singing Ambassadors, the OFF band, Power Faith, Naga Idol winner Moanungsang and some others will also be performing at the programme as a mark of solidarity to the CCPRA in its endeavour to promote peace in the society.
Saying that the CCPRA is organizing the programme solely on is, Akumsungla Aier said that this programme at Kohima and Dimapur being organized by the Clark Centre for Peace Research and Action is a contribution of the Centre to the society, and she expressed hope that it would be fruitful and bring some changes in the society.
Talking about the importance of theater in the Naga society, Akumsangla Aier said that the Naga society has a rich tradition of storytelling through oral means. However, with the advent of writing in the society, the oral tradition of storytelling is losing its significance, therefore this theater programme which aims at dissemination education about peace in the society is also recapturing the fading practice of Naga values in peace building measures.
The team from CTC will leave for Kohima tomorrow. The whole programme will be documented on video cassettes and will be circulated for mass publicity. The Highland Dawn Media has been contracted for the visual documentation. With peace and peace building becoming an important topic in the society, the activities of the CCPRA, especially the dissemination of education through dramas, is expected to go a long way in understanding conflict and peace building in a society ravaged by decades of conflict and political turmoil.
