USTM awards media personalities

Nagaland Post Correspondent one of the awardees  

Guwahati, July 29 (MExN): University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM) organised University Public Relations Day today at Hotel Landmark, Guwahati. Felicitation of eminent media personalities, announcement of several educational schemes for the media by Education Research and Development Foundation (ERDF), among others, marked the day.  

Emilo Konyak (Correspondent, Nagaland Post) was one of the media personalities awarded at the event. She maintained that her work for free speech and expression has made her a better and more responsible citizen. “The inherent power of the media has given corrupt and tyrannical governments sleepless nights and we the fourth estate have immense power, to expose evil and cause positive change and no matter what the consequences are, journalism is a powerful job that comes with a high price,” she added.  

Emilo thanked God for his abundant love and blessings on her, the ERDF for the recognition, and the jury members for nominating her for the award. “This ERDF young media achiever award 2017 is a great honour for me and for my working life as a journalist,” she said. “My editor (Nagaland Post) has been my mentor, guide and inspiration….,” Emilo added. She further thanked her husband, parents, siblings, and in-laws for their support and encouragement.  

Others who received the award were Nitumoni Saikia (Editor in Chief, Pratidin Times), Prasanta Rajguru (Executive Editor, Amar Axom), Snigdha Sikha Borah (DY 365), Chaya Moni Bhuyan (Political Editor, News Live), Nasreen Habib (Editor, Eclectic), Mamta Misra (The Assam Tribune), and Bireshwar Das (Dainik Jugasankha).   The Awards for the 2nd North East College Magazine competition was also given. Under the Best Magazine category, the first three prizes were bagged by Alochani by Digboi College, Jabian by J.B. College, and Lakhimpur Girls College Magazine by Lakhimpur Girls College respectively.  

Cottonian by Cotton College was adjudged the Best Cover category, Manash Pratim Rajbanshi, a 4th Semester student of Nalbari College won the award for his article Moraha Fulor Xubah under the Best Article category. Dipsikha Baruah of Digboi College won the Best Woman Editor award, Priyanka Nath, 6th Semester student of K.C Das Commerce College Best Woman Writer award for her article Nishigandha. MOSAIC 2016 of St Anthony’s College Shillong, Meghalaya and RENDEZVOUS 16 of Salesian College of Higher Education, Dimapur, Nagaland bagged the Special Jury Award.
