Vaishnaw flags off three new trains in Assam

GUWAHATI, JANUARY 3 (MExN): In a significant step towards enhancing regional connectivity and improving transportation infrastructure, three new trains and a newly constructed Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tetelia station yard were officially launched today, in line with the Prime Minister’s vision to improve rail connectivity. 

The event took place at Guwahati Railway Station and was attended by key dignitaries, including Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margherita. Senior officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) were also present at the ceremony, along with local MPs, MLAs, and other distinguished guests.

The newly introduced trains include the Daily Passenger service (train no. 55818/55817) running between Guwahati and New Bongaigaon, the Tri-weekly Express service (train no. 15911/15912) connecting Tinsukia and Naharlagun, and the Bi-weekly Jan Shatabdi Express (train no. 12047/12048) between Guwahati and North Lakhimpur. 

In addition to the train services, the newly constructed Road Over Bridge (ROB) at Tetelia station yard, built by Northeast Frontier Railway, was dedicated to the nation. This infrastructure development aims to enhance safety and reduce congestion, benefiting both passengers and local commuters.

MoU signed between NIELIT and Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was also signed between the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT) and Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd., marking a step towards fostering collaboration in emerging digital technologies. NIELIT, a premier institution under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, has been recognized as a Deemed-to-be University and will offer programs in fields like Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Semiconductor Design, and more, aimed at creating a skilled workforce in line with industry demands.

Further enhancing regional communication, a new FM Transmitter was inaugurated at Akashvani Kokrajhar. This new transmitter will provide clearer and high-quality FM broadcasts to over 30 lakh residents in the region, including the districts of Dhubri, Bongaigaon, and Chirang.

During the flagging-off ceremony, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw highlighted the increased focus on railway infrastructure development in the Northeast. He noted that the current year’s budgetary allocation for railway projects in the region has more than quintupled compared to the 2009-14 period, underscoring the government's commitment to improving transportation in the Northeast.
