Imphal|November 20 : Public vehicles are likely to stay off the roads from Monday onwards in Manipur in protest against the new system of rationing fuel introduced by the state government yesterday. Manipur has been experiencing hardship due to fuel scarcity triggered by the over hundred day’s economic blockade along the national highways leading to Manipur.
Transporters on Sunday demanded the state government to review its decision of introducing new rationing system of fuel. It can be noted that owing the acute shortage of fuel the state government has introduced the new rationing system.
According to this new rationing system of fuel, all types of vehicle are allowed to buy a limited quantity of fuel once only in three days. The maximum quantity of diesel which a passenger bus can buy is 40 litres for every three days, 25 litres for local trucks, Tata Sumo and Tata Magic on passenger service would be given 15 litres and 20 litres of diesel respectively.
Likewise, four-wheeler private vehicles would be given 10 litres of diesel or petrol for every three days. Three-wheelers would be given 8 litres of petrol or diesel while it would be five litres for two wheelers for every three days.
Meanwhile, almost all the activities have already been affected by prolonging economic blockade first called by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) started from August 1 and the counter protest by the United Naga Council (UNC) from August 21.
