Peren, September 11 (MExN): The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Central Agricultural University (Imphal), Jalukie, organised an animal health camp at Samziuram village in Peren district on September 11.
The programme was conducted by expert faculty members and fourth-year undergraduate students under the supervision of the college's Dean, Dr I Shakuntala, and team leadership of Dr Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
Village chairman Jenggai Pamei welcomed the participants and expressed gratitude to the college for organising the programme.
Dr A Palanisammi, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, chaired the programme and encouraged farmers to actively participate and benefit from the initiative.
A technical session on livestock health, production and reproduction was also held, followed by a farmer-scientist interaction.
Palanisammi spoke on "Healthy animal is the backbone of farmer's wealth", while Dr Keneisezo Kuotsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex, spoke on "Common pig diseases in Nagaland and its prevention". Chutia delivered a presentation on "Reproductive disorders of farm livestock and its management".
A total of 55 people, including 40 farmers and 15 officials, attended the programme.
Free animal health check-ups, treatment, rabies vaccination for dogs, reproductive health examinations, pregnancy diagnosis and deworming were carried out during the camp.
Veterinary medicines, including vitamins, mineral mixtures, anthelmintics, antibiotics and antiseptics, were subsequently distributed to needy farmers.
The camp covered 462 livestock, comprising 34 dogs, 37 cattle, 83 pigs, 11 cats and 297 poultry.
