DIMAPUR, FEB 15 (MExN): Strong condemnation and opposition against fratricidal killings, in the sense of Nagas killing Nagas, was today voiced by the Village Chiefs [GBs] Federation (VCF), Nagaland.
Thorough discussions “about the daily killing among the Naga brothers in Nagaland” were held, the minutes of the federation’s meeting conducted today and made available to the press said. ‘Naga unity’ and other matters relating to the VCF were taken up.
“The house unanimously resolved to approach the Government of Nagaland, Government of India, and the factional leaders of the Naga national Workers in order to bring a solution to the Nagas as a whole,” VCF General Secretary Hopongkiu Yimchunger informed.
Other agenda relating to the federation were also discussed. The GB family relief/benefit is now liable to be provided to families of GBs who either retired or died after the year 2003. The GBs corpus fund is to be jointly operated with the Nagaland government after approval from the federation’s executive council is taken.
Well-wishers have been requested to purchase a calendar printed by the VCF in aid of its silver jubilee which is to be observed in 2010. In this regard, all leaders of GBs associations across the state have been directed to extend cooperation.
Further, it was announced that their next general election would be conducted at Wokha on March, 2006 for which the Lotha GBs Association will play host. The date for the elections will be notified later.
After the elections, the new team is to approach the Government for an official building for running the federation’s office if their conference hall is not constructed by then. A finance committee will be selected after the elections.
