Dimapur, November 10 (MExN): The Nagaland unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) today has claimed that almost every section of the state today are unhappy with the Naga People’s Front-led Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) government.
At a time when all sections of Nagas from students, teachers, contractors, government employees and NGOs are up against the government for one or the other reason, the NCP has withdrawn its support to the coalition “since we were never and will never be a part of anti-people policies.” The NCP said the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) ‘luring’ away two legislators of the former did not add to the latter’s mileage. Rather the ruling party should remember that it had secured only 26 seats of its own in the 2008 elections.
The NCP issued a press release today in response to statements of Dr. Shurhozelie, President of the NPF and KG Kenye, secretary general of the NPF concerning the pull out of the NCP from the DAN coalition. “We are aware of that the withdrawal of our support to the ruling coalition does not pose any threat to the NPF government after the defection of 2 NCP MLAs. But the NPF must also not forget that the electorate in 2008 General Elections gave them only 26 seats,” NCP general secretary Miathou Krose said in the press release.
The “luring or taking away” of the two NCP Legislators by the NPF “without any necessity was very uncalled for, since they already had absolute majority then.” But, the NCP said, instead of grudging the NPF, the party remains true to its pre-poll commitment of having a coalition government.
