Wokha, July 2 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Wokha has issued guidelines for reporting and notifying livestock deaths to facilitate relief claims under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), following a communication from the Home Department and the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA).

According to the circular, livestock owners must report the death of animals caused by a disaster within 24 hours to the nearest Veterinary Centre or the administrative authority for necessary action.

Upon receiving the report, the District Veterinary Officer or field staff must conduct spot verification and assess the situation within three days of the incident, it said.

The guidelines also require livestock owners to submit geo-tagged photographs of the entire carcass to the concerned authority.

A post-mortem examination should be conducted by a qualified veterinarian wherever possible, while the District Veterinary Officer is required to issue a death certificate after spot verification and confirmation that the death was caused by a disaster.

The circular further directed Chief Veterinary Officers to maintain proper records of disaster-related livestock losses, submit the documentation to the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), and endorse a copy to the Directorate for record.

The deputy commissioner stressed strict adherence to the prescribed procedures to ensure timely disbursal of relief and accurate documentation of livestock losses in the district.
